A well written story about farm living during the early years in New Zealand. Parkinson weaves a sharp picture of life and the people living it, but this is no romance. Historical fiction, yes. Romance, no. I had more than a few moments of wanting to smack the heroine/victim. Seriously, TSTL. Even during times of understandable naivete, her judgment in who to listen to when the precedent clearly states the other is more than frustrating.
